September 2, 2011

Good morning! It's The Nerd's Almanac for Friday, September 2, 2011.

One of history's most significant auroral events took place on this date in 1859, affecting the operation of electric telegraphy. Communication took place with batteries switched off. Amazing!

And today is Andy Grove's birthday today! He is not only a co-founder of Intel Corporation, but also a researcher in semiconductors and a pioneer in integrated circuit technology. He has published a number of books and technical papers and holds many patents.

Here is a quote for today...
"Bad companies are destroyed by crisis, good companies survive them, great companies are improved by them."
-- Andy Grove, regarding Pentium flaws in 1994

And that's the almanac for today. Nerds of the world, we salute you!
